Sunchild Child and Family Services (CFS) provides both Prevention and Protection Services to ensure the well-being of Indigenous children and families. Their Prevention Services aim to keep families together within their community, minimize the risk of children and youth entering care, and support reunification after child intervention involvement. These services encompass various support mechanisms and promote cultural and traditional practices.
Protection Services at Sunchild CFS ensure child safety in line with the Alberta Child and Youth Enhancement Act. They collaborate with Prevention Services to support family reunification and help families maintain cultural connections. ABOUT THE ROLE
On behalf of our client, Sunchild Child and Family Services (CFS), we are seeking a HR Coordinator to join their leadership team. As the HR Coordinator at Sunchild Child and Family Services, you will play a critical role in supporting the organization's mission by overseeing all aspects of human resources management. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will develop and implement HR strategies, policies, and procedures that align with SCFS's values and goals.
Your duties will include recruitment and onboarding, performance management, training and development, employee relations, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations. Additionally, you will collaborate with department heads to address HR needs and support a positive and inclusive work culture. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of SCFS while promoting the well-being of Indigenous children and families.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain effective recruitment and hiring processes to attract qualified candidates for open positions
- Coordinate and conduct interviews and assist in the selection of candidates
- Onboard and train new employees, ensuring they receive all necessary information and resources to be successful in their role
- Ensure compliance with all human resource policies and procedures, as well as federal and Alberta employment laws
- Facilitate employee training and development programs to enhance skills and promote career advancement
- Administer employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off
- Mediate employee conflicts and assist in resolving employee relations issues
- Collaborate with team members to create a positive and inclusive work culture for all employees
- Coordinate with external organizations for training and development opportunities for employees
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with discretion
- Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with employees regarding HR-related inquiries and guide as needed.
- Support various HR projects and initiatives to improve overall employee satisfaction and engagement.
- Ensuring uncompromised social media integrity and publication strategies
- Bookings and event planning in collaboration as necessary
- Participating in Indigenous cultural training and remaining up to date on Indigenous cultural practices and traditions including attending community events and gatherings
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in human resources or relevant designation such as the CPHR or CIHRP
- 3+ years of experience in human resources, preferably in non-profit, social services, or indigenous settings
- Experience in full-cycle recruitment from job posting to interviewing and onboarding.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations in Alberta
- Proven experience in human resources or related roles with a focus on recruiting and training development.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong cultural lens and Indigenous methodologies
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Potential hybrid for various office(s) alongside work from home after probation
- Physical Environment: Office-based role with routine computer work
- Mental Attention: Strong planning and attention to detail required
- Standard office hours: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Travel involved between main office locations in Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer and Sylvan Lake, AB. The position can be based from any of the three locations.
