About the role

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Clerk provides administrative and operational support to the Finance Department, assisting with catch-up work and helping ensure financial records are accurate, organized, and up to date.

We are looking for someone with experience in financial records and administrative support, including accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, collaborative, and able to handle sensitive information with care.


What you will do

As the Accounting Clerk for Pacheedaht First Nation, you will:

  • Assist with catch-up and backlog work within the Finance Department, including filing, data entry, and reconciliation tasks
  • Organize and maintain financial records, both digital and physical
  • Assist in reviewing and updating financial documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Support bank and account reconciliations as directed
  • Help prepare financial reports, summaries, and spreadsheets
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and sensitive information at all times
  • Support accounts payable and receivable functions, including processing invoices and tracking payments
  • Collaborate with finance staff to ensure deadlines and priorities are met
  • Respond to internal inquiries and provide general administrative support to the finance team
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Lived and learned experience we are seeking

To be the successful candidate for this position, you will have/demonstrate:

  • Education or equivalent: Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is an asset
  • Skills grounded in lived experience: 1-2 years of experience in office, administrative, or financial environments is considered an asset
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine motivation to learn and grow within a finance environment
  • Willingness to take initiative, adapt quickly, and contribute to a supportive and collaborative team
  • Basic understanding of financial principles or a willingness to learn and develop these skills on the job
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and openness to learning new systems or accounting software
  • Familiarity with reconciliation and reporting processes is an asset
  • People & relationships: Excellent communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills; skilled in problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with a proactive approach to supporting the finance team
  • Certifications & Checks: Clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector, as required.
