About the role

Reporting to the Housing Manager, the Housing Maintenance Worker is responsible for the upkeep, repair and general maintenance of the housing units within the community. This includes any related infrastructure within the Nation. This position plays an important role in ensuring that homes are safe, functional and well-maintained for community members. This role requires hands-on skills specifically in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and general repair work.


We are seeking someone who brings a background in hands-on maintenance work, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and general repairs, and who is comfortable supporting seasonal tasks and responding promptly to housing needs within a community setting. Experience coordinating with contractors, maintaining records, and handling tools and supplies safely is essential, as is a commitment to ensuring homes are safe, functional, and well-maintained for our members.


This part-time position runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm, four days a week. Please note that this position is temporary and intended to support ongoing maintenance and repairs while renovations are underway. The role will remain in place until these improvements to the housing units are completed.

 

 What you will do

As the Housing Maintenance Worker for Pacheedaht First Nation, you will:


Maintenance & Repairs

  • Complete general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting repairs
  • Carry out seasonal maintenance tasks such as snow removal, lawn care, and firewood
  • Respond promptly to housing repair requests from tenants and administration
  • Coordinate with contractors for larger projects and specialized repairs

Planning, Records & Operational Support

  • Maintain records of completed work, materials used, and outstanding maintenance issues
  • Assist with inventory tracking and safe storage of tools, equipment, and supplies
  • Support housing staff in developing maintenance schedules and upkeep plans
  • Other duties, as required by the Housing Manager

 

Lived and learned experience we are seeking

To be the successful candidate for this position, you will have/demonstrate:

  • Education or equivalent: Certification in a trade (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, machinery, etc) is an asset
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 is preferred
  • WHMIS or other safety certifications is an as asset
  • Skills grounded in lived experience: Experience in general maintenance, construction or a related field
  • Knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting.
  • Ability to safely use a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Good communication and time management skills.
  • Cultural grounding: Knowledge of Pacheedaht First Nation culture, history and local traditions.
  • People & relationships: Excellent communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills; skilled in problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Indigenous experience: Indigenous lived experience and/or significant experience working with Indigenous communities is strongly valued.
  • Certifications & Checks: Valid BC driver’s licence with a clear driver’s abstract is required.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector, as required.
