A well‑established, privately held transportation organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee its day‑to‑day accounting operations. This role is ideal for a hands‑on accounting practitioner who enjoys being close to the business, working directly with ownership, and bringing structure and consistency to the finance function.


This position offers strong visibility across operations, responsibility for core accounting activities, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a stable, long‑tenured team.


YOUR DAY TO DAY

  • Support and lead the full day‑to‑day accounting function, owning the month‑end and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
  • Prepare, review, and present accurate financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports for ownership and senior leadership
  • Oversee billing and invoicing processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and proper revenue recognition
  • Manage Accounts Receivable, including customer billing, collections, and aging analysis
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, ensuring timely processing of vendor invoices, expense management, and cash disbursements
  • Manage payroll processing and payroll‑related accounting, coordinating with external payroll providers as required and ensuring accurate remittances and reporting
  • Oversee fuel tax reporting and compliance, including tracking, reconciliation, and timely filing in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Manage cash flow and working capital, including cash forecasting and monitoring inflows and outflows
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities and provide financial insight to support operational and strategic decision‑making
  • Liaise with external partners as required, including accountants, auditors, banks, and regulatory bodies
  • Maintain and optimize the use of the company’s accounting system (Sage or similar), ensuring data integrity and effective reporting
  • Provide hands‑on leadership, coaching, and oversight to accounting staff, including AP and AR
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting, bringing structure and consistency to the finance function
  • Support special projects and ad‑hoc financial analysis as requested by ownership


WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation is an asset, though not mandatory
  • Minimum five (5) years’ progressive experience in a hands‑on accounting role within a transaction‑heavy environment; experience in transportation, trucking, logistics, or a similar operational industry is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of full‑cycle accounting, including month‑end and year‑end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with ERP and accounting systems (e.g., Sage or similar).
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or overseeing accounting staff, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
