This newly established family office represents a multi-generational family with significant private holdings and investment interests. With a long-term vision for stewardship, succession, and strategic growth, the office is being built from the ground up to support the family’s financial, legal, and philanthropic goals. The CFO/CAO will be the first hire and play a foundational role in shaping the office’s structure, staff, systems, and culture.


We are seeking a highly experienced and self-directed Chief Financial Officer (CFO)/ Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to lead the setup and ongoing management of the family office. This role will play a dual role as both financial leader and administrative architect, responsible for building the office’s infrastructure, systems, and team from the ground up. This includes guiding the next generation of family members in their involvement, establishing governance frameworks, and serving as a key point of contact for external advisors. The successful candidate will be trusted to make strategic decisions independently while knowing when to engage in specialized support.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish and manage full-cycle accounting, budgeting, and cash flow processes
  • Oversee investment reporting, performance tracking, and capital allocation
  • Liaise with tax advisors, legal counsel, and financial institutions
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and fiduciary obligations
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and quarterly reporting packages
  • Secure physical office space and oversee infrastructure setup
  • Select and implement financial and administrative software systems
  • Onboard and manage initial staff, including an assistant
  • Develop internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain records, contracts, and governance documentation
  • Collaborate with owners to align financial strategy with long-term family goals
  • Facilitate onboarding and education of next-generation family members
  • Identify when to engage external advisors for specialized needs
  • Support philanthropic initiatives and legacy planning

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA, MBA, or equivalent designation preferred
  • Prior experience in a family office, or senior roles in investment management, public accounting, or consulting with family office clients (strongly preferred)
  • Proven track record of setting up financial operations, systems, and teams from scratch
  • Strong understanding of investment structures, tax planning, and intergenerational wealth management
  • Self-starter with high integrity and discretion
  • Highly organized and capable of working independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with family members
  • Technologically savvy with the ability to assess and implement systems
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and building structure where none exists
