ABOUT THE COMPANY

Based in Leader, SK, the Farm Manager will lead and inspire a team of 11-15 people, overseeing all aspects of farm operations, including financial and production records, quality control, crop-related operations, and staff management. The role requires hands-on leadership, driving efficiency, innovation, and excellence in crop production and grain management. Key responsibilities include supervising general farm workers, maintaining work records, hiring and training staff, operating and maintaining farm machinery, and performing general farm duties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Goals and Cost Control
- Achieve production targets that prioritize operational efficiency, cost control, storage optimization, budget management and safety.
- Manage planting and agronomy activities, including regular field checks to ensure crop health and performance.
- Oversee harvest operations with an eye for safety – implement cost-saving measures and evaluate their effectiveness for continuous improvement.
- Contribute to crop planning, budgeting, and profit & loss management with a strategic and proactive mindset.
- Utilize farm systems and tools to track operations, assist with capital planning, and provide clear economic justifications for new projects and equipment.
- Collaborate with ownership to shape long-term crop planning and budgeting plans that support sustainable growth and operational excellence.
Communication and Coordination
- Foster a culture of open communication, where team members feel encouraged to share ideas, raise concerns, and contribute to problem-solving and solutions.
- Ensure consistent communication around production targets, daily work assignments, safety protocols, and housekeeping requirements.
- Coordinate activities and promote teamwork through communication, goal setting, and challenges.
Staff Management and Development
- Encourage a collaborative, team-oriented environment by communication of tasks and targets, promoting accountability, and recognizing achievements.
- Lead recruitment, training, and motivation of production staff, building a capable, passionate team committed to excellence.
- Contribute to crop planning and budgeting.
Operational Efficiency and Maintenance
- Monitor weather, crop stages, and environmental factors to plan daily and seasonal activities efficiently and with agility.
- Support the safe operation of grain handling equipment, aeration systems, and farm equipment.
- Oversee maintenance, repair work, and seasonal preparation, including winterizing, ensuring all equipment is ready and reliable.
- Lead preventative maintenance efforts and contribute to maintenance planning.
- Maintain work records and logs.
Quality and Compliance
- Ensure proper grain storage protocols are followed, while maintaining accurate inventory tracking and consistent quality standards.
- Oversee weighing and sampling procedures to minimize loss, reduce dockage, and maintain product integrity.
- Take initiative in maintaining compliance with all industry and environmental standards.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate required.
- All levels of experience considered; compensation will vary based on the candidate’s level of expertise.
- Experience supervising 11-15 people is an asset.
- Organized and a team player.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a leadership style that builds trust, accountability, and team spirit.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to balance multiple priorities, make decisions, and keep operations running smoothly.
- Physically capable of lifting to 100 lbs and working in confined spaces or at heights.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Average hours: 40 to 60 hours per week.
- Work setting: rural area, remote location.
