Armco Agencies Inc. is a manufacturers’ agent and full-service provider of premium plumbing products, serving wholesale distribution, plumbing boutiques, and major retailers across Eastern Canada. With over 30 years in business, Armco Agencies Inc. supports clients through product information, order and distribution systems, market evaluation, and a dedicated team of sales specialists. We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead and oversee the financial operations of Armco Agencies Inc. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial reporting, managing day-to-day accounting activities, supporting strategic decision-making, and strengthening financial processes and controls. Working closely with ownership and operational leaders, the Controller will provide financial insight, improve reporting and forecasting capabilities, and support the continued growth of a well-established organization.
YOUR DAY TO DAY:
- Lead and oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and cash management.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting analyses.
- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Develop, maintain, and improve financial controls, policies, and accounting procedures.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and banking activities, providing recommendations to optimize financial performance.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Oversee inventory accounting, inventory valuation, and reconciliation processes.
- Analyze product margins, profitability, and operational performance to support business decisions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and regulatory filings.
- Coordinate annual reviews, audits, and year-end activities with external accountants and advisors.
- Develop and maintain meaningful financial reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for ownership.
- Partner with operational and sales teams to provide financial insights related to pricing, inventory, purchasing, and business performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting capabilities, and overall business efficiency.
- Support system enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives related to accounting and financial processes.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including financial reporting and full-cycle accounting responsibilities.
- Previous experience in wholesale distribution, building products, manufacturing, inventory-based businesses, or related industries is considered a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting, costing, and working capital management.
- Experience with ERP systems and accounting software; ability to improve and streamline financial processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial analysis skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated, hands-on, and comfortable working within a collaborative owner-led business.
