ABOUT THE ROLE
The Farm Supervisor plays a key hands-on role in the day-to-day operations of the farm, working directly under the Farm Owner and supporting a small, dedicated team. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining machinery, assisting with crop production activities, and performing general farm duties that keep the operation running safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
The ideal Farm Supervisor is honest, communicative, self‑motivated, and eager to learn, someone who can support the Farm Owner by turning direction into action, bringing forward issues early, and contributing to a positive, team‑oriented work environment.
As the Farm Supervisor, you will help guide day‑to‑day execution, uphold high standards across field operations, and support the farm’s ongoing progress. Your leadership at the ground level helps strengthen the farm’s culture, ensures work is completed safely and effectively, and contributes to a workplace where people take pride in their work and in how they represent the operation.
KEY RESPONSBILITIES
Production Goals and Cost Control
· Achieve production targets with a focus on safety, cost control, and budget management.
· Manage planting, agronomy activities, and harvest; track operations and ensure timely execution with close communication with the Farm Owner.
· Collaborate on production staffing only, no actual planning regarding expansion and long-term capital plans.
· Monitor weather conditions to adjust plans and optimize inputs.
· Embrace new technologies and practices to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and foster sustainability.
· Work directly with ownership on strategic planning, reviewing operational performance, identifying improvement opportunities, and aligning resources with in‑season priorities.
Communication and Coordination
· Keep the Farm Owner fully informed on the financial targets, production goals, and safety expectations, ensuring alignment before communicating plans to staff.
· Translate Farm’s priorities into clear, task‑based assignments for the team and confirm expectations around housekeeping, workflow, and day‑to‑day operations.
· Coordinate activities and share updates with the Farm Owner when engaging with stakeholders, partners, and suppliers, reinforcing strong community and industry relationships on his behalf.
· Maintain open, solution‑focused communication with the Farm Owner to support teamwork, resolve issues quickly, and keep operations running smoothly.
· Provide the Farm Owner with visibility into team performance, highlighting innovations, successes, and areas where additional support or resources are needed.
Operational Efficiency and Maintenance
· Support equipment operation, oversee machinery repair, and manage seasonal preparations.
· Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and housekeeping standards.
· Coordinate grain deliveries, storage logistics, and transportation.
· Aid in all aspects of grain and oilseed operations from crop planning to storage and logistics.
Quality and Compliance
· Ensure compliance with government regulations and industry standards.
· Implement proper grain storage procedures, inventory tracking, and quality control.
· Monitor weighing and sampling of grain for accuracy.
· Champion a proactive safety culture by educating and empowering staff on health, safety, and environmental responsibilities.
· Submit timely safety reports and lead farm safety programs.
· Identify operational risks and develop contingency plans for crop failure, equipment breakdown, or labour shortages.
People Leadership and Development
· Motivate and retain staff; address workforce challenges proactively.
· Foster an environment where safety is prioritized, and employees feel their work matters.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Proficient in English (required)
· Mechanical aptitude: experience in carpentry, welding, or small trades is an asset.
· Experience operating large farm machinery preferred.
· Previous farming experience is an asset.
· Honest, communicative, and willing to bring issues forward.
· Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
· Willing to learn and train on the job
· A valid driver’s license is required.
· Valid Class 1A driver’s license (preferred or willingness to obtain).
· Must have own vehicle, trucks available for use during farm work.
· Physically capable of demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions.
· Physically capable of lifting to 50 lbs and working in confined spaces or at heights.
