We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our team in a growing environment. This role will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for the operating company and the private holding companies held by the principals through a family office lens. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail oriented, and experienced in both corporate and personal finance matters.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the general ledger by accurately posting daily financial transactions in line with accounting standards.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including posting invoices and ensuring timely payments and collections.
  • Monitor daily cash balances, forecast upcoming payments, and initiate internal transactions with appropriate approvals.
  • Reconcile bank accounts for the firm, holding companies, and family trusts.
  • Reconcile intercompany receivables/payables with BloombergSen funds on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain a monthly invoice checklist to ensure completeness and prompt processing.
  • Review and process expense reports from company credit cards and employees, ensuring proper coding and policy compliance.
  • Process weekly payroll through ADP, post entries into Sage, and perform reconciliations.
  • Execute month-end close procedures and submit filings such as EHT, HST, and corporate tax returns within regulatory deadlines.
  • Track and review operational expenses (e.g., legal, audit, donations, renovations), maintain payment schedules, and reconcile against approved quotes.
  • Keep accurate electronic records, including invoices and statements of account.
  • Assist in preparing monthly trial balances, income statements, and year-end financial statements.
  • Support the Compliance Group with regulatory filings, checklists, logs, and recordkeeping across monthly, quarterly, and annual cycles.
  • Liaise with CRA on audits and ad hoc requests, providing timely updates to the team.
  • Contribute to annual audit preparation and reporting.
  • Draft and organize process documents, memos, and summary reports on internal servers.
  • Provide backup support to team members as needed.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects based on the firm’s evolving needs.


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, along with a recognized accounting designation.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional bookkeeping experience, ideally within an investment firm or family office.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with corporate tax processes is an asset.
  • Experience with SAGE accounting software is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology platforms that enhance reporting and payment systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • High attention to detail and a zero-tolerance approach to errors in financial transactions.
  • Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Self-driven and proactive in managing workload and responsibilities.
  • Takes ownership of work quality and follows through to completion.
