We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Corporate Accountant to join our team in a growing
environment. This role is critical to the success of our organization and will be responsible for managing the day-
to-day accounting and financial reporting for the operating company and the private holding companies held by
the principals through a family office lens. The ideal candidate is highly organized, discrete, and experienced in
both corporate and personal finance matters.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategical insight on budget and cashflow management.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports and support the year-end audit process.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and service providers.
- Ensure compliance with tax filings, corporate registries, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations and month-end close.
- Review annual holding company T2 returns prepared by external accountants and calculate corporate tax estimates for the year to remit to CRA.
- Monitor daily cash balances and forecast upcoming payments and savings. Initiate internal transactions upon receiving necessary approvals.
- Liaise with banks on day-to-day operational needs, including reviewing agreements, managing loans and overseeing shareholder fund transfers for designated purposes.
- Review bank reconciliations for the firm and various holding companies and family trusts.
- Perform month-end closing duties to close the books and submit filings, including EHT, HST, Corporate Income Tax submissions within the regulatory deadlines.
- Track and review expenses - maintain up-to-date payment schedules and reconcile payments against engagement letters or approved quotes.
- Support Compliance Group in adhering to BSI’s compliance program, including maintaining checklists, logs & recordkeeping, and various regulatory filings on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Liaise with CRA for ad hoc audits and requests made and provide updates to the team.
- Assist in preparing monthly and year-end financial statements and reports for YE audits.
- Assist in preparing process documents, memos and summary reports and maintain these in an organized manner on internal company servers.
- Function as a back-up role to colleagues in the group, as needed.
- Assist with ad hoc projects on an as needs basis based on the demands of the firm.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from a reputable school required.
- CPA Designation required.
- 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably with exposure to investment firms, private companies or family offices.
- Corporate tax experience is strongly preferred for this role and considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP, tax and corporate compliance.
- Knowledge of SAGE accounting software preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Open to learning new technology platforms to improve the reporting and payment systems.
- Excellent communication skills (English oral and written).
- Zero-tolerance attitude for accounting/money movement errors, working diligently to reduce risk of errors and to promptly resolve any that may arise.
- Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and passionate for continuous improvement.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability with excellent use of logic and critical thinking.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet internal/external deadlines.
